INJURIES PLAGUE AMERICAN DOWNHILLERS
American racers have been suffering from injuries in recent times. Marla Streb, Myles Rockwell, and the Kaprun racer were both hurt in crashes on the Crystal Mountain course, Washington, at the NORBA National.
Elke Brutsaert raced at Kaprun, but she cut her leg badly during her race. According to Elkes account, her seat broke off when she fell off a large jump at the bottom of the course. She also injured her leg on the metal rails. Elkes finished tenth in the race, bleeding profusely and in obvious pain. She was immediately taken to hospital for further medical attention. Brutsaert is currently leading the NORBA National Downhill Series with three wins from the four events. She will likely be able race in the NORBA finals at Mammoth in September. However, it’s unknown if her riding will be affected.

LOPES & CHAUSSON RULE KAPRUN DU
Volvo-Cannondales Anne-Caroline Chausson and Brian Lopes won the sixth World Cup Dual finals in Kaprun, Austria. This was the continuation of their incredible year. Both were already guaranteed the 2000 titles by their victories in Japan at the previous World Cup. Chausson missed the first Dual event, but she has won every one since.
Lopes’ most worrying news is that Nicolas Vouilloz is being rumored as considering running for the Dual title in next year. He raced in a dual-slalom race in France last year, possibly to test his skills for next year’s events or for the World Cup finals later in the year.
